10 Affirmations For A Divorcing Spouse
It’s normal to experience a wide range of emotions, from sadness and anger to confusion and uncertainty.
You are not alone. Resources like this page and my book “Fearless Freedom” are available to help you navigate this process and come out stronger on the other side. Whether you’re seeking legal assistance, therapy, or simply support from friends and family, there are people who care about you and want to see you thrive.
I also want to encourage you to take care of yourself during this time. Self-care can look different for everyone, but it’s important to prioritize your emotional, mental, and physical well-being. This could mean practicing meditation, engaging in physical exercise, spending time in nature, or seeking out counseling or therapy.
My number one rule: Do NOT wallow.
Finally, I want to remind you that you are capable of getting through this. You are strong and resilient and will come out of this experience with newfound strength and wisdom. While the road ahead may be difficult, know that you have the power to create a positive future for yourself.
Remember to be kind to yourself, and take things one day at a time. You’ve got this.

Asset and Liabilities Worksheet
Developed by our practice here in Tennessee, this comprehensive worksheet provides a structured framework for organizing and assessing your financial landscape during divorce proceedings. Whether you’re just beginning the divorce process or in the midst of negotiations, this invaluable tool will guide you in identifying and documenting your assets and liabilities, ensuring transparency, and aiding in the equitable distribution of marital property.
Breaking down the financial aspects of your marriage can sometimes feel like the most overwhelming part of the divorce, but it’s also one of the most important when it comes to making sure you receive an equitable division of finances.
Think about it this way: doing your due diligence now means you’re taking steps toward a more stable financial future for you and if you have children, most especially for them.

Marital Balance Sheet
To help my clients determine how they want to divide the property, I use an Excel spreadsheet called the Marital Balance Sheet that lists all the marital and separate property and debts. You can download a blank copy of it here. Review it, review the instructions, and try filling it out based on what you currently know about your assets and debts.
I have provided a sample that is already filled out as well (below). If there is information you do not know, the discovery process is designed to help you find it. Your spouse’s answers to Interrogatories and Requests for Production should help you get the complete picture of your family finances.
